The project team was challenged by Bank of America and Cousins Properties to create a garden beautiful enough to be included on the local Home and Garden Tour and possibly nationally recognized. The project is situated above service docks, framed by two mid-rise buildings, a grade change of 12’ from the top of the dock to the public sidewalk at the main entry and has a two to three foot cross-section (depth) for the plant material. This limited depth contains drainage lines, electrial conduits and irrigation, as well as the soil requirementsfor the lawn, shrubs and tree root-balls. The planting of many trees required the use of raised planters. In order to reduce the dead load on the structure, the project team research a varitey of opetions and selected STALITE lightweight aggregate for the garden cross-section. The STALITE was placed onto the surface and into the planters with a 60 foot telesoping conveyor.
